This blog was created so our students, colleagues, families, and friends can follow us on our journey to Africa. We would love to hear from each and every one of you. We hope to post biweekly.

Hi Julie and Leah, I think of you each day and really had an "aha" moment when moving my 101 year old mother-in-law and her aide from Ghana to an assisted-living in Emerson (where she lives across the hall from my mother). It seems that Joyce, who speaks English, is a wonderful caregiver and very happy in America cannot eat our food either! She had many packages and jars of very unusual looking ingredients that had to be moved along with her rice cooker. I also had to immediately purchase a portable burner; I did not realize that the new apartment only has a microwave, and Joyce's food requires a stove for preparation. So, I guess the moral of the story is, even if you decide to spend more time in Ghana, the food differences will remain. Viva las protein bars!! Be well..however, what a way to diet! You'll never make fun of my cottage cheese and sunflower seeds again! Barb W
